Thailand Declares Special Holidays in Bangkok Area as Flooding Disrupts Travel

BANGKOK — Thailand has declared special holidays for government workers in Bangkok and three surrounding provinces as heavy rainfall and flooding continue to disrupt transportation and daily activities. The Thai government announced that Monday, September 28, and Tuesday, September 29, would be special holidays for government offices in Bangkok, Nonthaburi, Pathum Thani and Samut Prakan. The measure is aimed at reducing travel and easing disruption caused by heavy rainfall and accumulated flooding in affected areas. Government agencies are still expected to maintain essential public services, particularly services that can be provided online.
